In this issue, I included a Yoshiyuki Tomino interview to promote the domestic release of Garzey’s Wing.
I loved how this one starts:
Animerica: How did you become an animator?
Yoshiyuki Tomino: I’m not an animator. I’m a director. There’s a difference.
Animerica: Then how did you become a director?
Yoshiyuki Tomino: It was the only job I took.
Animerica: Would you still like to become a director of motion pictures?
Yoshiyuki Tomino: Of course. If I had a choice I would rather direct motion pictures than anime. I hate anime.
Oooooohhh Kay then….
Sailor Moon issues were the hardest to get when it came to filling in the holes to get an entire run of Animerica 1992-2005. Popular title = Put it on the cover = Profit!
The featured article is a great primer on every series, Moon, R, S, Super S and Sailor Stars.
Fushigi Yugi the Mysterious Play is the spotlight feature. (always had a problem spelling and pronouncing that show)
Enjoy an extended Animessages. More of my commentary in-between the pages below.
VHS Dub and Subtitled pricing still was bonkers in 2000. DVD pricing still remains the same to this day. $10 difference in a sub and dub. An English dubbed production costs more than a subtitled only one and yet…$10 cheaper. I wonder if this was why dubs were more popular then.
I think Planet Anime (RIP) needed a couple of more sites.
Anime That Time Forgot: Cybernetics Guardian – with these cool DVD-ROM features!!!!
AnimeKomix add mixes Martin Lawrence’s You Go Girl with Yu Gi Oh! Nice.
I love that one of the letters “Fushigi Yugi Online” told people you could stream the show via RealPlayer via a channel called W-Vision.
This issue came with stickers!
I saw this in the theatre when this came around. I liked the series better.
And here is the Yoshiyuki Tomino interview with just a hint of Garzey’s Wing.
I hope that, if the “I hate anime” quote from him spreads all across Japan, Yoshiyuki Tomino’s career will be ruined! MWAHAHAHA!!!!
Just wanted to thank you for posting this and other old magazines. I happened to be looking for old anime advertisements for a project I am working on in my free time and am thankful I found this site.
