Serial Experiments Lain – Trippy Internet Anime – Animerica – September 1999

December 6, 2013 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Cover story is a lengthy Serial Experiments Lain feature that I've included below. Remember when Serial Experiments Lain was released. Few people had DSL, broadband was growing but slowly. The majority of people still had dial-up. Read the three interviews from Producer Yasuyuki Ueda, Screenwriter Chiaki Konaka and Director Ryutaro Nakamura. Don't remember these people … [Read more...]

Tenchi Muyo! From OVA to Movies to Universe and Manga – Animerica August 1999

December 2, 2013 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Harem Scare'm it's Techi Muyo Time!Ahh...Tenchi Muyo. The godfather of harem anime. To me it seems like the best era for harem titles started with Tenchi Muyo and ended with Love Hina. Then it all turned into extreme boob fanservice at the expense of the story.Anyway...I scanned the feature story about all things Tenchi Muyo - from the OVA, TV series, manga and … [Read more...]

Animerica – Ani-Mayhem – Armitage III – Pioneer Anime – June 1996

June 17, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Remember when Pioneer went all out with Armitage III? For Armitage III, they took a cue from Hollywood animated movies and cast some Hollywood talent. Kiefer Sutherland and Elizabeth Berkley played the leads. There is a 2 page interview with Kiefer Sutherland about his role, and his experience with ADR voice acting. What you'll be noticing in the next couple of months is … [Read more...]

Animerica – Urusei Yatsura – Mighty Space Miners – Record of Lodoss War Box Set – November 1995

May 16, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Urusei Yatsura is the cover for November.I think this Record of Lodoss War ad has the first appearance of an anime box set. Granted they've shown bundles for Anime 18, but this is the first for US Manga Corps. Promoted as a "Gift Box" 13 episodes for $129 - a good $50 price break than purchasing the individual volumes. Here's the oddity of this issue. Suncoast has two … [Read more...]

Animerica – Record of Lodoss War – Tokyo Bablyon – US Renditions – Guyver – April 1995

April 26, 2012 by Lance Heiskell 1 Comment

Ears to another good issue of Animerica. Record of Lodoss War is on the cover. In this issue, CPM's US Manga Corp is taking Manga's subtitle premium pricing model and use it on Tokyo Babylon. English Subtitled VHS $29.95, English Dub $19.95. English dubs are expensive to produce so I keep wondering what was the logic to charge less for the English dub.I counted 14 … [Read more...]

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
