Team Rocket is on the cover promoting the first Pokemon movie. I wanted to feature the article "How To Customize Your Model Kits" I have four model kits that I bought at A-Kon around 2003 that I have yet to build. It just wasn't for me as a hobby.Note to any companies with technology in your name. Don't Do It!. Case in point: the ad for LVD.com - Laser Visions Direct. "The … [Read more...]

Animerica – LaserDisc – Hakkenden – Rei Rei – Pioneer Anime Ads – September 1995

Orge Slayer was on this cover this month. As this project goes on, there are so many titles that I didn't know existed in the 90s.Now that I know that Gall Force was some of the same team behind Tenchi Muyo, I now have to find it and watch it.For Pioneer Ads in 1995, the level of quality greatly differs from issue to issue. I could have done the ad layout for this … [Read more...]

Animerica – Ah My Goddess – Japanimation vs Anime VHS – Pioneer Laserdisc – February 1994

"Keiichi!" "Belldandy!""Keiichi!" "Belldandy!"This is what I remember of "Ah! My Goddess" from watching the series around '96 when my sister was my roommate my last year in college. Hastings had an anime section call "Anime" not the Blockbuster "Japanimation" monicker.I have the OVA series that Animeigo re-release several years ago - I need to watch it again. … [Read more...]

Enjoy the trip down memory lane

I’m nostalgic and I keep stuff. I’ve decided to that it would be cool to showcase some of the history of North American Anime fandom. Here I’ll post covers and ads from magazines, badges and program guides from anime cons and marketing pieces from almost every US company.

I feel that for every fandom, people need to reflect and get a better understanding of what everything used to be. How the past and present lie in parallel with each other and how they differ.

I will do magazine posts chronologically. I have much more that magazines to post but that’s my focus for now.

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
