Team Rocket is on the cover promoting the first Pokemon movie. I wanted to feature the article "How To Customize Your Model Kits" I have four model kits that I bought at A-Kon around 2003 that I have yet to build. It just wasn't for me as a hobby.Note to any companies with technology in your name. Don't Do It!. Case in point: the ad for LVD.com - Laser Visions Direct. "The … [Read more...]

Animerica – Street Fighter – Anime Expo Turns 5 and Soft Cel Ad – May 1996

You still see TONS of Street Fighter cosplay at cons - it's on the cover for this issue. The Animessages has some sad news for Sailor Moon. Animerica – Maison Ikkoku, Ghost In The Shell Theatrical, HyperDoll – April 1996

I love Maison Ikkoku. I read the manga first. My sister got a couple of manga volumes -the original flipped oversized version-and I read them. After that, I bought the rest of the series. After finishing the last volume, I admit that I had tears reading the last chapters.Since then, I've purchased the entire series on DVD box set when VIZ release the series several years … [Read more...]

Enjoy the trip down memory lane

I’m nostalgic and I keep stuff. I’ve decided to that it would be cool to showcase some of the history of North American Anime fandom. Here I’ll post covers and ads from magazines, badges and program guides from anime cons and marketing pieces from almost every US company.

I feel that for every fandom, people need to reflect and get a better understanding of what everything used to be. How the past and present lie in parallel with each other and how they differ.

I will do magazine posts chronologically. I have much more that magazines to post but that’s my focus for now.

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
