Animerica – Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Magazine Cover – Ronin Warriors – Devil Hunter Yohko – December 1995

May 20, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

First Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon cover for Animerica. This is my favorite issue so far because of the 1985-1995 Anime: Then and Now article and the Animessages with messages written by each of the US anime releasing companies. I normally don't scan articles, but these two had so much perspective.I really urge you to read both pieces. They are great snapshots in … [Read more...] about Animerica – Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Magazine Cover – Ronin Warriors – Devil Hunter Yohko – December 1995

Animerica – Urusei Yatsura – Mighty Space Miners – Record of Lodoss War Box Set – November 1995

May 16, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Urusei Yatsura is the cover for November.I think this Record of Lodoss War ad has the first appearance of an anime box set. Granted they've shown bundles for Anime 18, but this is the first for US Manga Corps. Promoted as a "Gift Box" 13 episodes for $129 - a good $50 price break than purchasing the individual volumes. Here's the oddity of this issue. Suncoast has two … [Read more...] about Animerica – Urusei Yatsura – Mighty Space Miners – Record of Lodoss War Box Set – November 1995

Animerica Magazine – Streamline Pictures, SoftCel Ads – 3×3 Eyes Cover October 1995

May 13, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

3x3 Eyes is on the cover this month. What to talk about in this issue?Maison Ikkoku manga chapter was good. One of the first manga series I purchase all the volumes. The Suncoast "Action Packed Anime" ad is the quintessential mid 90's ad design scheme. Full page starburst with lots of primary colors. It's like they are channeling "Saved By The Bell"1st Streamline … [Read more...] about Animerica Magazine – Streamline Pictures, SoftCel Ads – 3×3 Eyes Cover October 1995

Animerica – LaserDisc – Hakkenden – Rei Rei – Pioneer Anime Ads – September 1995

May 10, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Orge Slayer was on this cover this month. As this project goes on, there are so many titles that I didn't know existed in the 90s.Now that I know that Gall Force was some of the same team behind Tenchi Muyo, I now have to find it and watch it.For Pioneer Ads in 1995, the level of quality greatly differs from issue to issue. I could have done the ad layout for this … [Read more...] about Animerica – LaserDisc – Hakkenden – Rei Rei – Pioneer Anime Ads – September 1995

Animerica – Space Battleship Yamato / Star Blazers – August 1995

May 8, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Lots of Space Battleship Yamato coverage in this issue. There is an article titled "The Star Blazers You Didn't See." Great article about broadcast edits. Plus, I never knew there was an OVA series Yamato 2520.Last issue, Planet Anime had the first ad to display an email address. This issue, Manga Video is the first ad to include a website. I love how they included the … [Read more...] about Animerica – Space Battleship Yamato / Star Blazers – August 1995

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
