Animerica April 1997 – Sailor Moon DIC VHS The Doom Tree Series Box Set – Cover Battle Arena Toshiden Volume 5 – Number 4

September 23, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

This month’s issue’s cover is a show that I’ve never heard of before: Battle Arena Toshiden. So for Animerica to game the system, they put a “Hey Sailor Moon News!” call out on the cover. Very clever, cause there’s a lot of Sailor Moon in this issue.

From this issue:

DIC’s first Sailor Moon VHS box set. “The Doom Tree Series” Take a look at the illustration – it looks airbrushed, and not like a normal anime promotional art. 49.99 – for over 4 1/2 hours of action! Plus, it’s a 1-800 order – where you get the upsale “Ask your operator about the 6 other Sailor Moon videos”

Top Ten Tuxedo Masks Pickup Lines and a preview of Sailor Moon R. And Sailor Moon dominates all the anime fan art.

Want more Sailor Moon?

Think the Brony phenomenon is new? Then check out this article: “Confessions of an Adult Male Sailor Moon Fan.”

The TV Update section highlights what shows Sci-Fi Channel airs each Saturday. Lily C.A.T., Tenchi Muyo in Love, 8-Man After, Robot Carival, Vampire Hunter D, Project A-KO and Odin

First appearance of this show called “Pocket Monster” They should really shorten that name to something more catchy.

First appearance of Cowboy Bebop.

The ADV Films ad for Ellcia has the weirdest group illustration I’ve seen in a long while. At least AVD only charges $5 more for their Japanese subtitled VHS compared to their competition who charge $10 more.

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
