Revolutionary Girl Utena – Animerica Magazine December 1998

April 4, 2013 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Revolutionary Girl Utena – Similar to Sailor Moon features, I decided to scan this first in-depth feature from this issue. It’s very informative. My favorite part of Utena is the beginning sword fight song and the stairs. Lots of stairs. Best watching experience for Utena to me is still the metaphor-laden movie.

Here are some more highlights from this issue:

I scanned the Editor page because it highlighted talented people who worked on this magazine.

Fun with Porken Beans is all about Sailor Moon. I wonder how many lewd entries they received.

The Bandai AnimeVillage.com ad wins the award for “Most Font Colors”

Ad for MegaCon 1999 – I’ve been to this con several times. Fun times.

Nice Ghost in the Shell manga based figure of Motoko Kusanagi from Toycom.

I want to know the story why Pioneer called the English dub “The Mysterious Play” and for the Japanese sub “Fushigi Yugi” and had both names on this ad. Very odd approach in my opinion.

Two pages of Animessages featuring Tenchi In Tokyo ads.

Since in the past I’ve stated that I’ll scan all the pages with submitted fan art, Animerica did a “Create Your Own Dirty Pair” contest. Animerica must have decided to include all the entries cause there is a bunch of them.

Finally I scanned some regional anime store ads.

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
