Animerica – Ranma 1/2 Subtitled and English Dub VHS Prices – Dr Comics and Mr Games – July 1994

March 24, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Does double the Ranma 1/2 equal Ranma? I'm not too terribly good with math. Lots of repeat ads in this issue so few to discuss about.Speaking of Ranma 1/2, VIZ is now releasing the series in Subtitled format on VHS. Notice that the English Subtitled VHS has 3 episodes for 34.98 and the English Dub is 2 episodes for 29.98. Why are they only placing 2 episodes per release for … [Read more...] about Animerica – Ranma 1/2 Subtitled and English Dub VHS Prices – Dr Comics and Mr Games – July 1994

Animerica – Patlabor Mobile Police – Animeigo – Bubblegum Crisis Screensaver – June 1994

March 21, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

I am all for a new series of Patlabor Mobile Police. Today's animation tech and the mecha design would be awesome. It still amazes me how much text copy goes into a US Manga Corps ad. Detonator Orgun takes it to new heights. My favorite ad is AnimEigo's ad for the Bubblegum Crisis - The Screen Saver. You got all the Knight Sabers as screen savers with a bonus of music … [Read more...] about Animerica – Patlabor Mobile Police – Animeigo – Bubblegum Crisis Screensaver – June 1994

Animerica – Dirty Pair – Anime VHS & Laserdisc Ad Copy – Dragon Knight – May 1994

Hot pants and Go-Go boots plaster this months issue of Animerica. I need to pick up Right Stuf's reissue of Dirty Pair. The interview in the article is quite good. The ad? Well...By now, you've seen the pattern in early to mid 90's VHS and Laserdisc anime ads - Too much description copy and long verbose taglines/headlines: "The Dirty Pair - The action is non-stop and the … [Read more...] about Animerica – Dirty Pair – Anime VHS & Laserdisc Ad Copy – Dragon Knight – May 1994

Animerica – Harem Anime – Tenchi Muyo – Rei Rei Tentacle Porn – April 1994

March 16, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Harem anime has arrived - a genre is born. Tenchi Muyo garners the cover for this month. I'm reading the interview with director Hiroki Hayashi and I found some information I never knew about the series:"No Need for Tenchi! is inspired by Gall Force and Bubblegum Crisis. We made up something that resembled a side story to Bubblegum or Gall Force..." "What I'd had in mind … [Read more...] about Animerica – Harem Anime – Tenchi Muyo – Rei Rei Tentacle Porn – April 1994

Animerica – Giant Robo – Project A-KO – Bubblegum Crisis Pillows – March 1994

March 14, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

It's that creepy eye! - I haven't seen any of Giant Robo, but I do remember the Giant Robo box set Media Blasters released years ago with the plastic eye ball which held the DVDs.Every two months in 1994, US Manga Corps released a crap ton of A-KO. 5 VHS releases. When manga was released in the 90s, it was comic book form first - manga volume later - flipped. The … [Read more...] about Animerica – Giant Robo – Project A-KO – Bubblegum Crisis Pillows – March 1994

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
