Animerica – Wings of Honneamise – Manga Ads – Cyber City Oedo 808 – May 1995

May 1, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

The Wings of Honneamise is the cover for May’s Animerica Magazine. My current memory of this movie was Bandai Visual’s temporary push into the North American market.

I remember watching Cyber City Oedo 808 on a pay movie channel. I can’t remember if it was Starz or not. I just remember lots of cursing.

VIZ wins the award for “How much stuff can we promote on one page?” Some one needs to LOLcat the cover of this release “Cat-fu Fighting”

Next is the first ad for Clamp’s X. It came out in comic book form first in the states. I bought all the volumes but I have yet to finish it.
Anime series was good.

I’m going to make it a habit to scan any of the fan art pages. I love them. So much heart.
This Manga ad is typical of future Manga ads. Lots of fonts, EXPLOSIONS!, long copy, and Manga Man speaking words.

Also, I wanted to scan this months edition of Animessages to show people that fan complaints 17 years ago are the same as today.
Talk of Sailor Moon, Robotech, Dragon Ball Z, English dub criticism, convention travel.

Speaking of convention travel – check out the 1995 convention calendar. That was the date for the first Anime Weekend Atlanta and the second Otakon.

Last are two ADV or AD Vision titles – Dragon Half and Curse of the Undead Yoma. Notice their logo in both ads. One has the text “AD Vision” and the other leaves it off.

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
