Animerica – Grave of the Fireflies – Urotsukidoji III Return of the Overfiend – Kekko Kamen -November 1994

April 3, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

Grave of the Fireflies is the cover image and featured article for this issue.

CPM’s Anime 18 brings more Urotsukidoji – now III Return of the Overfiend. 4 VHS releases, 1 episode each for $29.98. The box set is $99.95.

The first major video retail store ad goes to Palmer Video. I did some research and Palmer Video was a New York, New Jersey video store with 44 stores according to some deep Google searching. For 1994, this ad has a pretty good retail design layout. I appreciate that this retailer fully embraced anime and has in their ad “We offer an extensive selection of new and catalog releases of Japanese animation”

I had no idea VIZ did a “100% Made-in-America Sequel” for Macross II.

Additional video game advertising with Sega CD’s Key Flying Squadron.

More A.D. Vision love for Go Nagai with Kekko Kamen “Fighting for Justice, Freedom, and the Naken Truth”Just read the rest of the ad. Lots of cheesy copy that I can help but groan in appreciation of bad puns. Also, A.D. Vision announces they’ve moved to a new building.

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
