Key The Metal Idol – cover for February 1997
Highlights for this issue:
I have a copy of The Complete Anime Guide 1997 edition, listed in the Editor’s page.
Read the review of Neon Genesis Evangelion English dub VHS. I forget how old this series is -it has aged quite well.
The quick piece about anime idol singer is a good read. I always liked Animerica’s charts – lots of good info.
CPM’s Grappler Baki 45 minute OVA ad – first time they list a website on their ads. Buy the power of Archive.org – Check out CPM’s website in 1997. Plus –
This months TV update is Dragon Ball Z, Eagle Riders and Ronin Warriors. There is still a call to arms for getting interest back into Sailor Moon.
The Animerica Radar shows what titles are coming out on VHS – Subbed, Dubbed and Laserdisc.
Can’t get enough of the fan art – 3 pages full.
Next is an ad for Pioneer’s Ani-Mayhem collectible card game – Now with an Expansion! 220 new cards and new rules. February 22, 1997 was National Demo Day for the trading card game.
This months ADV ad plays homage to several of the current sci-fi movies at the time. Notice the Independence Day, Mars Attacks, Star Trek TNG and V. references.
I know it’s been many years since you uploaded this issue, but you didn’t happen to also scan the interview with Hirokai Sato, back then, did you? I’ve been trying to find it, and so far, this site is the closest I’ve gotten.
