Animerica -ADV Acquires Neon Genesis Evengelion, Guyver on VHS, March 19

June 4, 2012 by Lance Heiskell Leave a Comment

In this issue, Please Save My Earth is on the cover.

What really saved the Earth? Evangelion.

Most people found out that ADV acquired Neon Genesis Evangelion while reading this issue. In the article it says that ADV put out a press announcement that states they want the US version to “look better” than the version in Japan (same bravado in every decade.) Then you read in the article that Gainax put out a press release THE NEXT DAY denying any such intentions.

Speaking of ADV / A.D. Vision – It’s not hard to tell which demographic they are trying to reach with this ADV/SoftCel combination ad. Go Nagi horror/nudity/action of Shuten Doji and Hanappe Bazooka and then lower 1/3 Soft Cel ad has an illustration with a guy holding panties. I wonder what that show is about…

One thing I miss from Animerica and other anime magazines was the character relationship charts. Judging from the looks of Please Save My Earth, a love triangle is simple math.

The ad for Iria – Zeiram the Animation has the first appearance of the parent company Central Park Media being used as the primary company name. “Central Park Media – The First Name In Japanese Animation” It was always weird for me to figure out why CPM would use all those labels.

Wonder why the first VHS volume of The Guyver – Bio Boosted Armour was only $12.95? Because it was ONLY 1 episode. Reading this ad Manga decided to release Guyver monthly with 1 episode per VHS release. I guess they were using the pattern of Marvel and DC comics going monthly. Who knows.

I now have a quest to find a copy of VIZ’s new video gaming magazine “Game On”

And for your Sailor Moon fix – I present you this month’s Animessages – Moonlight Madness special letters.

And more anime fan art.

Practice Makes Awesome

A Few Tips Upon Reading

First off, find a secluded area and pour yourself a beverage of choice. You must cleanse the palate to take in the delicacies of the nostalgia I'm about to throw down.

Second, if it’s cold where you live, grab a blanket, maybe two. If at all possible, sit down while reading. I hate standing, never stood for it, never will.

Finally, see if you can find the encrypted message left in the third magazine post.
